The global financial turmoil since last year has been affecting many industries worldwide in various extents. Though plastics is one of the major raw materials for the sectors of plastic products, building and construction, packaging, automobiles, electronics and electrical appliances, IT and telecommunications, etc, the industry has also been affected. Guangdong Province is now the largest plastics production base in China, the total output of plastic products has reached 8.38 million tons in 2008, with an increase of 0.8 million tons over last year. It accounts for 22.6% of the total national output. However, the percentage growth has been slowed down in compare with last year.
Mr. Fu An, President of Guangdong Plastics Industry Association, spoke at Chinaplas 2009 press briefing today about the development of plastics industry in China and Guangdong Province. He pointed out that the plastics industry is undergoing a steady growth in China, and still maintains its high position in Guangdong Province. Since the debut of the Open Door Policy in China, the industry has built a solid foundation in the last 30 years. In recent years, with the adjustment of plastics industry's structure and its products' structure, Guangdong's plastics products' development has been redirected to high-end technology and wider application in user industries, such as electronics, electrical appliances, automobiles, packaging, building and construction, etc. The industry's independent innovation and increasing ability of self-adjustment, together with the 4 trillion yuan infrastructure investment plan, aiming at increasing domestic demands, as well as the implementation of economic policy on various industries, such as petrochemical, automotive, equipment manufacturing, light industries, electronics, etc, will create vast business opportunities and new markets for the plastics industry, thus assist the industry in fighting against the economic bad times. As advised by Mr. Fu, the plastics industry will further enjoy the benefit from the "Outline of Pearl River Delta Regional Plan on Reformation and Development" to be approved by the State Council.
As the world's No. 3 and Asia's No. 1 plastics and rubber trade fair, Chinaplas 2009 will be held from May 18-21, 2009 at China Import & Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, PR China. Mr. Fu said, "The timing of Chinaplas 2009 is the moment that we can see effective implementation of China's stimulus plan against the financial crisis, as well as the 4 trillion yuan infrastructure investment plan. All these positive measures are believed to stimulate the economic growth and improve the general living standard. Local governments have launched a series of policies in line with the central positive measure to boost the domestic consumption. It ascertains the saying of "When there is crisis, there is opportunity".
Mr. Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, Organizer of Chinaplas 2009, told the media that the exhibition area of Chinaplas 2009 will reach 140,000sqm, gathering over 1,800 exhibitors and 11 country/regional pavilions. The number of exhibits theme zones will increase to 10 for the first time. All these break the records of last 22 editions. Chinaplas 2009 stands out from other plastics and rubber exhibitions despite the worsening economy, Mr. Chu explained that the show's exhibitors well understood that in the period of economy downturn, a solid business foundation is a key for survival. Furthermore, they are aware of expanding the client base and building business relations through effective channels to prepare themselves for a better future development. This year, exhibitors from Hong Kong, such as LK Machinery, Chen Hsong, Ngai Hing Hong, Akei, Wutung, etc, will render their full support to Chinaplas again. In view of the sizable show scale, comprehensive exhibits and high degree of internationalization, Mr. Chu believes that Chinaplas will again serve the indicator of plastics and rubber industries.
According to the organizer, encouraging responses were received from buyer delegations despite the global economy downturn. Currently, there are registered delegation groups from overseas trade chambers and plastics associations, such as Brazil, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkey, Vietnam, etc; user industry associations in China, including plastics, building and construction, food, packaging, electronics, etc; trade associations in Hong Kong, such as Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Hong Kong Plastic Material Suppliers Association, etc. To attract more buyers to the show, the organizer has launched a series of buyer promotion campaigns, such as discounted airfares campaign for overseas buyers offered by Cathay Pacific and Dragonair, free hotel rooms and free shuttle buses offered to Chinese buyers, etc. It is anticipated that Chinaplas 2009 will attract over 70,000 visitors.
Riding on 30 years' successful experiences in exhibition, Adsale gives prompt responses and delivers effective solutions to cope with the global market situation. This year, a new "Plastic Building Materials Pavilion" with the theme of Reconstruction of 512 Sichuan Earthquake will be set up. The pavilion will feature an extensive application of plastics in household and construction areas, including plastic pipes, plastic plates, foaming materials, plastic profiles, plastic window/door and accessories, wooden plastic products, etc. It provides a sourcing platform of plastic building materials for building and construction industries. Concurrently, a Briefing on Investment Opportunities in Post-earthquake Reconstruction and Suppliers Sourcing of Sichuan Province and Forum on Investment in the "City of Plastic Building Materials Industry in China" will be held.
Mr. Fu added that the newly established "Plastic Building Materials Pavilion" has drawn attention from the plastics futures exchanges in China. To echo with the launching of PVC (the major plastic building materials) futures in China, Dalian Commodity Exchange has taken the lead to organize a plastics futures zone. The first time participation of investment field will surely be one of the show highlights.
The cross strait's first cooperation in the plastics industry, namely "Cross-strait Plastics Industry Summit" is another show highlight this year. The summit will investigate thoroughly the developments and challenges in industry, as well as to exchange market updates. Industry professionals and practitioners can congregate in this prime occasion for new concepts, new experiences and new opportunities. It will be held on May 17, 2009, the day before Chinaplas 2009 commences.
Chinaplas 2009 is organized by Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., and co-organized by China Foreign Trade Centre (Group), China National Light Industry Council - China Plastics Processing Industry Association, China Plastic Machine Industry Association, Guangdong Plastics Industry Association, Messe Dusseldorf China Ltd., Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry, as well as Beijing Yazhan Exhibition Services Ltd.
