The launching of cross-strait charter flights and initial agreement of "three direct links", the cross strait trading activities have been further speeded up and benefit the plastics industry of both regions. According to the figures, China and Hong Kong SAR continue to be the largest exporting markets of Taiwan plastics machinery. In 2008, the export amount to China and Hong Kong is 340 million US dollars, which represents 31.4% of the total export in Taiwan. The major machines include plastic injection molding machinery, extrusion machinery, blow molding machinery, etc. Currently, China ranks the second in the production volume of plastic products and plastic resin in the world. In view of the growing scale of the enterprises, plastics industry in China has become the world's focus. Though the cross-strait plastics industry has also been affected by the global financial turmoil, plastics, regarded as one of the most popular raw materials, still manages a steady growth in China. In long term, the China plastics industry will see optimistic future. With mature technology foundation, close geographical location, sharing similar language and culture, Taiwan enjoys advantages in expanding its market share in China.

Following the success of the previous summits, "China-India Plastics Industry Summit 2007" and "China-U.S. Plastics Industry Summit 2008", Cross-Strait Plastics Industry Summit 2009 will be organized to address the requests.
