Sinopec (Shanghai) Petrochemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Institute) is one of the earliest comprehensive scientific research institutions engaged in petrochemical technology research and development in China. In 1960, in order to solve the problem of people's clothing, the Minhang Conference in Shanghai decided to establish the Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute (predecessor of the Shanghai Institute) to undertake the research task of catalytic technology for the raw material of acrylic fiber (i.e. acrylonitrile). In 1984, Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute became a directly affiliated scientific research unit of China National Petroleum and Chemical Corporation. In 1990, it was officially renamed as Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute. On October 20, 2022, Sinopec (Shanghai) Petrochemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. was registered and established. Shanghai Institute has always been committed to promoting technological progress in China's petrochemical industry and serving the development of the enterprise. It vigorously promotes technological innovation and achievement transformation in the fields of organic raw materials (olefins, aromatics and their bulk derivatives), C1 chemical industry, synthetic materials, oil and gas additives, fine chemical industry, etc., forming a technological innovation system characterized by petrochemical catalysts and complete sets of technology. The research field covers the main technologies of the current petrochemical and coal chemical industry chains, and has become an important technical support force for the development of China's petrochemical industry.
