New ways of decarbonization in the plastic packaging industry

On November 30, 2022, the European Commission released a draft of the Packaging and Packaging Waste, which requires packaging manufacturers to use more recyclable plastics in the coming years. By 2030, all plastic packaging in the EU market must contain at least 30% recyclable ingredients, and by 2040, this proportion will increase to 65%. The goals of "peak carbon dioxide emissions" and "carbon neutrality" in China are also constantly moving on. People are increasingly paying attention to the environmental protection and sustainability of plastics. The scientific and technological content of plastics used in packaging is constantly increasing, and green and low-carbon packaging materials are increasingly popular.

HP Indigo digital printing technology has opened up a completely different track, reduced the printing process, and made the printing process more flexible, rapid response, unlimited version, comprehensive customization, personalization and on-demand production. It not only reduces the waste of materials, but also shortens the overall delivery cycle.
HP Indigo digital printing technology solves the environmental protection problem at the same time. EREMA EcoGentle® technology based on the food-grade bottle-to-bottle recycling process VACUREMA®

Based on the third generation of recycling technologies for bottle-to-fibre, bottle-to-sheet, bottle-to-bottle and tray-to-tray applications, the fourth generation of VACUREMA® enables lower material handling temperatures through innovative EcoGentle® technology and better material melting and mixing performance through a combination of extrusion ratio changes, targeted use of shear flow and elongation flow. These innovations have resulted in a significant reduction in the energy required for production: as low as 0.22 kWh/kg on a VACUREMA®Basic 2628, as well as an increase in the quality of the recycled output through gentler material handling and a wider process window. In addition, the fourth generation of the process solution is backed up by new patented technology that allows, for example, a further step forward in capacity up to 6000 kg/h.

SABIC Renewable polyolefin in flexible packaging applications

Environmental protection is the main theme of today's world. In order to better fulfill market requirement of sustainability, recently SABIC launched a series of certified renewable polyolefin grades including polyethylene and polypropylene products which could be used in various film application areas such as food packaging and industrial films. SABIC’s certified renewable polyolefin utilized 2nd generation bio-based feedstock, which does not compete with the food chain. Compared with fossil based polyolefin, SABIC certified renewable polyolefin has less carbon footprint and is more environmental friendly.

Bluepha PHA (PHBH)

Bluepha PHA is a natural polymer synthesized by microorganisms using starch or plant oil, with mechanical properties comparable to traditional plastics, which makes it possible to manufacture green packaging, straws, tablewares, cosmetics, fabrics, and other advanced products. We have developed 2 grades for commercial use. BP350, a flexible grade, and BP330, a rigid grade. Both grades are available in powder and pellet form, and can be used separately or blended in various proportions for different products.
Bluepha PHA is biodegradable in various environments including industrial compost, home compost, lands, rivers and lakes, and even the ocean. Both grades have been certified to be 100% biobased and have passed degradation tests in various environments, including home composting and marine degradation.

Da Fon Food Grade PCR-HDPE & PCR-PP Resin

The capability of Da Fon's secondary recycling process has been approved by U.S. food & drug administration to produce PCR-PP / PCR-HDPE materials that are for food-contact applications.
The PCR-PP / PCR- HDPE material is intended for use at levels of up to 100% recycled content in the manufacture of finished articles in contact with dry foods (Food Type VIII) under Conditions of Use (COU) E through G.
* PCR-PP P611HF with 100% PCR-PP material is produced by the feedstock source of food-grade waste of juice boxes, lunch boxes and single-use beverage cups in Taiwan.
* PCR-HDPE N610HF with 100% PCR-HDPE material is produced by the feedstock source of food-grade waste of milk bottles only in Taiwan, very pure and simple.
As a solution provider of carbon reduction, Da Fon would like to support brands' sustainable packaging strategies with its food grade PCR-PP and PCR-HDPE.

Dawn Biodegradation

Dawn make start make lay-out on petroleum based degradable materials (PBAT) in 2018, obtained the European Unions biodegradation certification, and achieve industrial production.
The product line is arranged in an all-round way, and is applied to packaging film, biodegradable mulch, disposable catering utensils, 3D printing consumables, biodegradable spinning, including melt blown fabrics and non-woven fabrics.
Technical features: Fully independent intellectual property rights, Dawn owned the key technologies of polymerization, modification and application, and achieved the development of the whole industrial chain of degradation.

STAR-BETTER UPM Formi innovative biocomposite

A brand new biobased product family is UPM Formi EcoAce, a biocomposite which meets even the highest sustainability requirements. It contains certified wood and cellulose fibers as well as bioplastics sourced from UPM Biofuels plant, BioVerno naptha. UPM Formi composite can be used to replace plastic in many applications, from furniture to consumer electronics. The main applications for UPM Formi are injection moulding and 3D filaments.
The possible carbon footprint of the product made with UPM Formi EcoAce reduce up to 90%, compared to traditional oil based materials.
