Indonesia Forges a Green Future for Packaging & Automotive Industries

Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, is leveraging urbanization, rising consumer power, and supportive government policies to strengthen its plastics and rubber industries. The market is projected to grow at a 6% CAGR from 2025–2033, reaching US$14 billion by 2033. Packaging and automotive sectors are the main drivers, supported by infrastructure development and downstream petrochemicals.
Injection molding dominates production (nearly 50%), followed by extrusion and blow molding. Sustainability is a priority, with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations mandatory from 2025, pushing companies toward circular economy practices. Strategic investments include AeroFlexx and Dynapack Asia’s lightweight flexible packaging, LamiPak’s aseptic packaging facility with 21 billion pack annual capacity, and PT Indoceria’s full-PE recyclable packaging with ExxonMobil.
In automotive, Indonesia targets 2 million EVs and 12 million electric two-wheelers by 2030. Lightweight plastics are crucial for EV manufacturing. Partnerships include Wuling Motors’ EV expansion, PT Pindad’s collaboration with South Korea’s KG Mobility, Polytron’s locally branded BEV with Skyworth, and Hyundai’s integrated EV production system.
Indonesia is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable packaging and EV plastics applications, with strong international collaborations and regulatory support.
