Government launches marine microplastics monitoring network
Publish date: 2026-06-05
Ahead of World Ocean Day on Monday, the Executive Yuan yesterday approved a report on building a national-level network to monitor microplastics presented by the Ministry of Environment (MOENV) and the Oceans Affairs Council.

To combat marine microplastics, the government is to adopt five key strategies: reducing plastic use at the source, conducting scientific monitoring, recycling resources, cleaning up marine debris and aligning with international standards, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said.

By removing waste, conducting scientific monitoring, promoting reuse and recycling, and cooperating internationally, the council said it has already gathered six years of data on marine microplastics.
