Malaysia Strategic Industrial Ecosystem Upgrade Elevating to High-end Manufacturing
Publish date: 2026-05-31
Malaysia is transitioning into a preferred hub for high-end manufacturing, with its market projected to grow from US$ 4.19 billion in 2026 to US$ 5.07 billion by 2031, expanding at a CAGR of 3.86%. This growth is driven by its role as a regional feedstock hub and downstream manufacturing base supplying the automotive, packaging, electronics and other industries, alongside global shifts towards a circular economy.
In advanced packaging, demand for high-performance materials is surging to meet strict food-safety standards, Halal certification regulations and convenient packaging. FE Green PET, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Far Eastern New Century Group, built an rPET resin plant in Melaka, producing tons of food-grade rPET annually. Additionally, Colorcon opened a film coating facility in Johor to serve the Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical market.
The electronics sector is also expanding. Azure, was attracted to build an LED chip packaging factory in Malaysia. Intel announced to expand its chip packaging and testing operations in Malaysia to meet soaring demand.
The manufacturing of medical devices and supplies remains a robust sector while healthcare packaging is under tremendous growth. Amcor completed its coating facility in Selangor for sterile packaging, while Oliver Healthcare Packaging opened a facility in Johor for medical grade packaging production. Rosti Group’s injection molding plant also achieved ISO13485 certification for medical device production.
The automotive industry is pivoting toward electrification. Proton Malaysia launched its first EV-exclusive assembly plant in Perak, while China’s XPENG begins EV assembly with local auto parts supplier. Audi is also localizing production to handle electrified vehicle technologies.
Malaysia is strengthening its industrial ecosystem through high-tech investments and sustainable practices.
At CHINAPLAS 2027, one of the world’s leading plastics and rubber trade fair, over 4,600 exhibitors will showcase innovative technologies, cutting-edge solutions and green materials to serve the needs of Malaysia’s high-end manufacturing industries. The exhibition will take place at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (Bao'an), PR China from April 13 to 16, 2027.
