Toyota to Build $3.6 Billion Texas Plant, Shift Some Tacoma Production from Mexico
Publish date: 2026-07-06
Toyota Motor Corp. will invest US$3.6 billion to expand its San Antonio, Texas, manufacturing campus with a second vehicle assembly line, adding 2.5 million square feet and creating 2,000 jobs by 2030.

Over an approximately four-year period, Toyota will transfer production of the Tacoma pickup truck from its Baja California plant in Mexico to the expanded Texas facility. Tacoma production at Toyota's Guanajuato plant in Mexico will continue.

The move comes as higher U.S. tariffs and uncertainty surrounding the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement reshape North American automotive production. Toyota said it remains committed to operations in Mexico, Canada and the United States and called for a quick resolution on USMCA to keep the region globally competitive.
