BYD debuts first Brazilian-made plug-in hybrid flex car as sales surge
Publish date: 2026-08-04
BYD unveiled its first Brazilian-made plug-in hybrid flex-fuel car, the Song Pro Super-Híbrido Flex Fuel, on 4 August 2026. Built at the company’s Camaçari plant in Bahia, the model can run on electricity, gasoline or ethanol and became available through dealerships nationwide the following day. The launch follows a two-year R$100 million investment and supports BYD’s shift from semi-knocked-down assembly to local production. The automaker is investing R$5.5 billion in Camaçari and expects the plant to produce about 180,000 vehicles in 2026. BYD plans to source more than 50% of parts locally for all Brazil-made vehicles by January 2027 and intends to add battery production and other components at the site.
