UNDP Launches Training to Help Nigerian Innovators Scale Solutions to Plastic Pollution

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria launched an intensive three-day commercial incubation training program in Abuja to support 20 selected local green innovators. Operating under the broader Global Plastics Innovation Programme (GPIP) and backed financially by the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund, this localized initiative aims to transform creative environmental concepts into structurally sound, job-creating commercial businesses. Across Nigeria, these grassroots pioneers are actively developing diverse mitigation solutions that span from digital resource-tracking tools and alternative packaging materials to localized waste collection networks, innovative reuse systems, and specialized machinery recycling technologies.
Following the conclusion of this initial series of expert-led workshops, hands-on business modeling exercises, and peer networking events, participants are scheduled to receive long-term developmental support. The organization will host ongoing technical advisory clinics designed specifically to help these eco-friendly startups overcome persistent commercial barriers to growth, optimize localized operations, and formulate clear blueprints to successfully scale their plastic reduction facilities nationwide. Ultimately, this strategic capacity-building initiative focuses on managing the entire plastic value chain to reduce severe environmental pressure while fostering critical sustainable economic opportunities across Nigeria's emerging circular economy.
