Alongside the development of society, new energy vehicles (NEVs) are the megatrends of automotive industry. However, due to the heavy body and other reasons, the problems in driving range and power are exposed to the NEVs, the pure electric vehicles in particular. In this connection, lightweighting is a primary challenge and objective in the design of NEVs.

Together with the rapid growth of production and mass consumption, in addition to driving range, another concern is safety performance. At present, almost all electric vehicle manufacturers, no matter emerging or traditional big names in automotive industry, or even battery suppliers, are paying great attention to battery safety in providing consumer a safer driving environment.

To cope with the demand of lightweight and safety, plastics applications in NEVs will be further expanded. Power battery system, motor drive system, cooling system and other components have certain performance and process requirements for the applications of plastics. Indeed, there are still a number of issues that need to be addressed in terms of safety and lightweight for the prospect of NEVs.
